A newborn fawn, found by a hiker, now has a home with a man and his two dogs.
When the baby deer, thought to be only a day old, was discovered alone in a field in Devon, England, the hiker assumed it had been abandoned so took the animal to a vet.
In fact, the fawn may not have been abandoned, but because she'd been in contact with humans, the vet feared that her mom would not take her back. So, not knowing how to proceed, the vet called expert animal rescuer Steve Hopper.
For the first 10 weeks, Steve fed the fawn goat's milk. And she thrived, becoming part of the family with Steve and his two German Shepherds.
He named the new addition to their family Milly.
"The shepherds took to her from the moment she came to the door and Milly actively plays with them," Steve explained.
Watch this fawn and two dogs become best friends.
The three animals have become like siblings. And because Milly hasn't had a mother to learn from, she's followed the dogs, learning to come when called and a treat is waiting.
"When she knows you have treats, like a chocolate bourbon or dog treats, she will come and occasionally she comes for company, a nudge and she's very affectionate on a good day," said Steve.
Because of her unique situation, Milly will not be released back into the wild. It was a miracle she survived, but she's now right at home with her bonded family.
"My general advice for any animal or bird if you find it, is leave it alone - but also if you have kids think about it - are you going to leave your two-year-old baby running around the play park on their own?" says Steve. "It's about balance and knowing what you've actually got in front of you."
